Activity 1: Rugby Superstars [4 points]
Jonah Lomu was a rugby superstar. He was the youngest ever All Black, selected at just 19 years of age. He went on to have an amazing career that included 63 caps (international games) and 37 tries. Jonah was Tongan, but spent most of his childhood in Mangere, South Auckland. He started out playing touch rugby and rugby league but changed over to rugby union and quickly made a name for himself. He was very tall, strong and fast.
Richie McCaw is another example of a famous rugby player. He was the captain of the All Blacks between 2004 and 2015. Like Jonah Lomu, he had an outstanding international career in rugby union and had many achievements. In fact he was the most capped All Black captain, most capped test rugby player and World Rugby Player of the Year in 2006, 2009, and 2010. He has been given a Halberg Award and made a member of the Order of New Zealand. As well as being an outstanding player, Richie McCaw was also a strong leader and captain.
For many people, players like Jonah Lomu and Richie McCaw are superheroes with extra special ‘superpowers.’
For my three super powers i would have invisibility super sonic hearing and teleportation because invisibility would be really fun to know that no one can see you and i would like super sonic hearing so that i basically can hear what people in america are saying and i can use it for good and for teleportation it would be help full i will never be late for anything.

  1. Hello Courtney,

Happy new year! I hope you're having an awesome day celebrating the end of the old year and the start of a new. I am just so ecstatic to be one of the SLJ student commenters this year. How are you?

Ka Pai for giving some background information from the website to tell people what this activity really is about. I like how you gave really good reasons as to why you chose those superpowers. It's great that you want to use these for the good side of things.

I'm forever having to rush in the morning despite how early I wake up, and I never thought I would need to use teleportation for that, so thank you for giving me another excuse to being almost late to school (I'm kidding!). I've never heard of the term 'sonic hearing', but it does make sense after reading what you wrote. What would you want to hear from lots of different places? I'd love to hear things going on behind reality TV shows because they are mostly scripted and hearing what really goes on is just my thing.

John Lomu and Richie McCaw are both amazing rugby players and have done really well so far making people believe they have some sort of 'superpowers'. Do you think they're good? Are you a fan? Personally, and I've mentioned this many times before, I just don't think sport is my thing. But we can all still have favourites! What is your favourite rugby player?

Well done with this activity Courtney. It's nice to see you still keeping up with the Summer Learning Journey while the new year is going on. Have a wonderful day and don't stop the effort!

    ~ Gargee :)
